Meet the Coords

What is a Coordinator?

The three of us are your O-Week Coordinators, and we are part of the team of students working to make the Rice O-Week experience the best possible! Traditionally, each residential college has three student leaders called O-Week Coordinators who are selected to oversee the preparation and execution of O-Week for the college and contribute to the campus-wide components of orientation. We are three upperclassmen from Brown College, and we have been planning O-Week and eagerly anticipating your arrival since January. We have dedicated the majority of our spring semester and summer to planning a week that we hope will surpass your highest expectations.

We chose to do this job because we care deeply about our fantastic college Brown, we love Rice, and we appreciate O-Week’s ability to make a powerful difference in an incoming student’s life. Most importantly, we wanted to do everything possible to give you the foundation to make your Rice experience special, in a way only you can! Our main responsibilities as Coordinators are selecting the theme, selecting the Advising Team, planning events for MythO-Week, reading your forms, matching you with your roommate, forming your groups, and ensuring that O-Week exceptionally prepares you for your journey at Rice.

Angelina Hall

Senior. She/Her. Boss.

You’re roaming around the Inner Loop and you see someone RUNNING to their 27th meeting of the day holding their water bottle, a phone charger, and their cool shades… then you realize “It can’t be… I haven’t seen her in four days… It’s ANGELINA HALL”

Angelina is a Senior at Brown studying at least one thing from every department here at Rice. Majoring in Sociology (so cool) AND majoring in Health Sciences (wow let her cook) AND minoring in Poverty, Justice, and Human Capabilities (she’s eating) AND pursuing the Spanish Language Certificate (she can do it all) AND is also on the Pre-Grad track (she is literally a superhero at this point), Angelina legit never stops grinding (like it’s concerning at some points). One of her favorite things about Rice is the freedom and flexibility that we all have to explore all kinds of majors, minors, and academic interests during our time here (which she took very seriously). “Take advantage of your time here; I promise you won’t regret it!”

A very, very, very, very proud New Yorker, Angelina is extremely excited to meet all of you and make sure you have the absolute best O-Week to ever be at Rice University. She will introduce you to all of her favorite study spots, tell you all of her bad jokes, and will make you feel at home here at Brown.

While not in the classroom, Angelina spends her time hanging out with her friends. Brown is definitely the best residential college, but that does not stop Angelina from making friends with people all around campus! You could also catch Ms. Hall binge-watching reality shows, hosting late-night watch parties, or sharing some hot takes on celebrities over tea time! She is obsessed with Broadway, so, if you’re ready to talk about musicals and plays for the next five days, Angelina is your girl.

As the Co-President of the Black Student Association (BSA), Angelina will definitely send you many announcements about how to get involved with this amazing organization and will show off her MASSIVE closet at the annual Spring Showcase, Soul Night!

Angelina has always been a part of O-Week and is hype to be one of your O-Week Coordinators this year. O-Week and Brown have given her so much over the years and she cannot wait for your journey to begin here!

Everett Adkins

Junior. He/Him. KOC

You walk into Rice’s student-run coffee shop, Chaus, and see a top-notch Keeper of Coffee (KOC) cheffing up a yum-en-i while taking customer orders and balancing a somewhat precariously placed bucket hat on his head. He’s on a roll though, so you’ve gotta -- as he would say -- “let him cook!”

Introducing Everett Adkins.

Everett is a Junior at Brown and is very excited to share the journey of MythO-Week with all of you. Born and raised in Houston, he is very excited for you all to experience the city that “offers something exciting for everyone!”

Sir Adkins went to a performing arts high school where he was the master at the piano (so if you see him around, definitely ask him about it!!!!!!!). Although Everett initially thought his path would lead him to the heights of the concert pianist world, he came into Rice open to all the possibilities available to him. After some trial and error, he has now become our favorite statistics major!

We asked Everett why he’s grown to love statistics so much, and he said that “from probability to data science, there’s so much interesting information in numbers.” Everett may be a diehard stats fan (or a “stan”), but he also loves that Rice lets him combine those stats with a variety of other fields only mildly related, including psychology, finance, and even civil engineering.

Outside of the classroom, Everett also enjoys helping out on the committees at Brown, which are one of the easiest and most engaging ways to be a really helpful contributor to our beloved Brown College. After a year co-running the Brown Events committee and planning some HYPE events, Everett will be in charge of the permanent improvements committee, where we’re sure he’ll make a real difference in making life at Brown better for future “Brownies” for years to come!

O-Week is going to be a truly amazing time!! After enjoying some unforgettable moments in his own O-Week and having an absolute blast as an Advisor in 2022, Everett just knew he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be an O-Week Coordinator and help create a week you all will truly love. If we know anything about Everett, we know he cannot wait to see you all come here and find a home in Brown. August can’t come soon enough!

Abel Limachi

Junior. He/Him. Abel.

Wait -- did you hear that? Someone screeching your name from across the quad? Now they’re running over to give you the greatest dap of all time?! Wearing his Houston/Miami jersey for the third day in a row, you know it can’t be anyone but Abel Limachi!!!

Howdy, y’all! Get ready to meet your third-favorite O-Week Coordinator (shh, don’t tell him we said that), Abel Limachi, a Junior at Brown who is so excited to welcome you to the BEST residential college! Abel was born in Houston, spent some years in Miami, and came back to Houston right before starting high school (which explains the ridiculously expansive sports jersey collection). Abel may love Miami, but he’ll be the first to say that Houston truly feels like home, which is why we know he cannot wait for you to come experience all the fun and exciting things that Houston has to offer.

Abel came into Rice as a Chemical Engineer, but quickly fell in love with Computer Science instead, so he definitely knows how it feels to not know what exactly it is that you want to do in college. One thing we know Abel loves about Rice is knowing that you are not alone in any situation and that there are many resources available to help you out.

When not coding his life away, you could probably find Abel working as your Brown Student Maintenance Representative or as your BEER BIKE COORD WOOOOOOO BEER BIKE OMG OMG BEER BIKE SO COOL LETS GET HYPE FOR BEER BIKE WE LOVE BEER BIKE LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Anyways (clears throat), Abel is also very involved in playing Brown Intramural Sports (we are truly the best at everything). You can easily go join Abel in soccer, basketball, flag football, softball, volleyball, and a ton of other sports as well! Other than dominating all IM sports, Abel likes to walk around campus and find fun places to study and meet new people, all while listening to his (questionable) playlists (he’ll tell you he has top notch taste, but we’ll let y’all judge for yourselves).

O-Week at Rice is extremely special because no matter who you are or what your background, Rice and Brown will welcome you with open arms and give you a support system that will last all four years. Brown is such a great community and will never let you down. As his fellow O-Week Coordinators, we can tell you firsthand that Abel is super excited to make this O-Week the best at Rice and make sure that you have the best time and introduction to Brown and Rice!

We can all guarantee that (after the two of us) Abel will be y’all’s number one fan from day 1. If you have any questions at all, always feel free to reach out because Abel’s the kind of person who will do everything he can to find you an answer.

Let’s get hype for MythO-Week 2023!

BSWB,

“Abel Limachi”
