The B-Team

Our Magisters

Doug & Emmanuelle Schuler

Hey there, Brownies! We are the Schulers: Doug, Emmanuelle, and Estelle – all at Brown, plus our son, Mael (away at Trinity University in San Antonio), and Doug’s two older sons: Noah and Wiley (both working in Austin). It’s awesome to meet you all!

Let’s introduce ourselves! Doug is a professor of business and public policy at Rice’s Jones School of Business. His research focuses on how companies get involved in politics, corporate social responsibility, and corporate activism. Not only that, but he also teaches MBA courses on CSR and business-government relations. When Doug’s not busy with academics, he enjoys sports like cycling, soccer, and tennis. Plus, gardening and walking the dogs are also a great way to unwind!

Emmanuelle is the vice president of administration and operations and U.S. site head at Immatics, a German company working on cancer T-cell therapies. She’s had a great journey, including running her own consultancy in the biotech sector. With a background in chemistry, Emmanuelle did her undergraduate studies at Université du Québec à Montréal and her PhD at McGill University. She is an executive MBA graduate from Rice (‘14). It’s also incredible that she had the opportunity to work with Dr. Rick Smalley, one of Rice’s Nobel Laureates, bringing her to Houston in 2002. In her free time, she likes going to the gym, experimenting with different cuisines, and watching Instagram. Doug and Emmanuelle first met on campus on a warm sunny day and that’s also one of the reasons Rice is so special to us.

Estelle is a sophomore at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She loves dancing and excels in contemporary, ballet, and jazz. Estelle is a fan of Taylor Swift, enjoys making TikToks, laughing, and hanging out with her friends.

And let’s not forget our furry friends, Adoni and Onyx. Adoni is a mellow and friendly dog who brings so much warmth to our home. Onyx, on the other hand, is a bit more energetic and tends to bark when she doesn’t know you, but you’ll discover she’s just as lovable and cuddly.

We’re really looking forward to getting to know all of you! If you have any questions or need assistance with anything related to college life, feel free to ask. Together with the B-Team, we’re here to help you make the most of your Brown College experience!

OUR RAs

Chris, Jaime, Eleanor, and Mae Mize

Jaime and Chris Mize.JPG

We are Chris and Jaime Mize, your Tower RA’s! I (Jaime) am originally from Plano, Texas and went to Texas A&M University for a degree in Economics. I am a Product Manager at a Benefits Administration Company (riveting, I know) and work directly with our lead developers to document all requirements and expectations for each feature they build. I consume more podcasts than anyone you will ever meet, listen to exclusively sad music, and love sunshine!

I (Chris) grew up in Houston and went to the University of Houston for a degree in Biology. I am the Radiation Safety Officer in the Environmental Health and Safety Department at Rice and have been here for 10 years. I am happiest when I am in a Goodwill digging through piles of old t-shirts. I love watching trashy tv shows and chatting about them. We are so excited to have you at Brown!

mae and eleanor.jpg

We have two children, Mae and Eleanor. Mae is 8 years old and loves all things history! Her favorite movie changes by the day, but her excitement for movie night never ceases. Her favorite foods are pickles and olives, so come prepared if you want to get on her good side. Only kidding…kind of. Eleanor is 7 years old and, unlike Mae, wants nothing to do with history. She loves listening to Taylor Swift and climbing up trees. She loves to eat anything that is spicy and tangy! She is immediate friends with everyone she meets, and will most likely ask what your name is 300 times. She can catch a ball better than most adults, yet somehow falls out of her chair almost nightly during dinner.

We also have a 1 year old cat, Midnight. He loves to snuggle and explore the outdoors!

Jess, Daniel, and Houston Krom

Hey Hey Hey! The Krom’s are here and excited to start our journey as the newest addition to the B-Team at Brown! Daniel and I (Jess) grew up in the Houston area and after many years away from Texas we are thrilled to be back home and at Rice where the weather is warmer, the tea is sweeter, and where everything is bigger!

Jess and I (Daniel) met in high school and as she told me back then and still says now “remember to say yes to Jess”. I said yes to Jess way back then and after 6 years of marriage, I’m still saying yes. That yes, has set me on a wild ride that I wouldn’t change for anything. I have always loved being around people and over the last several years I’ve held positions in private security and hospitality (I have a few good stories that I can share) I’m a little shy at first and I ask a lot of questions but most importantly I’m eager! Also, I love Anime and all things sports! I can talk sports and Anime all night long. I’m a night owl

I’m Jess – I like Daniel, have a passion for people especially students. I’ve spent my entire career in education. After graduating from Baylor University (Sic ‘Em Bears) with a BS in Education I moved to Bangkok, Thailand, and taught overseas as a first-grade teacher. I spent time as the Associate Director of Diversity and Inclusion at Cornell University and before that, I supported diversity recruiting at Baylor University. I now am the Associate Director of MBA Admissions at Rice. In my role, I lead the Admissions process for all Residential MBA programs. I’ve spent almost 10 years now in higher education supporting both undergraduate and graduate students. I have made my career out of what I love, helping students and I feel incredibly blessed to do the work I do. As we get ready for this new adventure and I’m most excited to get to know you! I love reading, traveling, a great glass of wine! I am obsessed with reality TV, Harry Potter, and Beyonce! What brings my heart joy is a glass of wine and Bravo Reality TV. Some would say I’m well-rounded.

Like we have said we love people and our favorite human is Houston. Houston is our son. (Yes, we are those people, we named our son after a city) Houston is 2 and loves a good fist bump and thinks every ball is a basketball! More than likely you will hear him before you see him. He is a bit independent, WILDLY active, and loves Coco Melon, Cars, and his grandparents.

You’ll catch us always cheering for our Houston teams, playing board games, or watching Marvel movies. We’re super chill folks that love good food, playing kickball and hanging out with our family! We look forward to all the traditions of Brown and doing life alongside you!
